A small hallway with many doors can be a problem for wheelchair users
A small hallway with many doors can be a problem for wheelchair users

A small hallway with several door openings can pose a problem when it comes to the placement of ramps in the doorways. The ramps themselves often occupy so much of the available floor area, that it becomes difficult for a wheelchair user to use the hallway.

If a ramp solution is chosen, all threshold ramps should be fitted with corner ramps, as this will considerably improve access.

There is, however, a much better solution to precisely this type of situation.

In a small hallway with multiple doors, a better solution is to "fill up" the hallway to the same level as the thresholds. The hallway will now function as a smooth surface, with no obstacles.

If the user has carpets or rugs, these can be laid on top of the raised floor, so that the hallway maintains its original appearance.
